The system was first introduced to the market in 1999 and has since been continuously improved, increasing the efficiency of procedures performed using it, as well as the comfort and intuitiveness of use.
Currently, there are more than 9,000 da Vinci surgical systems installed worldwide in 69 countries, and approximately 66,000 surgeons have been trained to work with the robot.
To date, more than 15 million procedures have been performed with the da Vinci robot.
In the US, open and laparoscopic prostatectomy (removal of the prostate) surgeries account for only 13 percent of all procedures. The remaining 87 percent are surgeries performed using the da Vinci robot.
