The publicly-listed producer of medical solutions will run a project to automate the pharmacy in the County Hospital in Radomsko. Synektik as the consortium leader signed an agreement spanning the supply and installation of robotic systems produced by Becton Dickinson Rowa and Loccioni as well as additional equipment, software and staff training. The net value of the contract is PLN 12.7 million.
As part of the project, the hospital pharmacy in Radomsko will receive the BD Rowa Vmax roboticized system to store and dispense drugs and the Loccioni APOTECAchemo roboticized system, which is a solution to prepare the cytostatic drugs used in chemotherapy automatically automatically. These technologies enhance precision, mitigate the risk of error and curtail staff exposure to toxic substances while also facilitating complete control over the circulation of drugs in the pharmacy. The automated system makes it possible to perform automatic checks of drug authenticity. It also records expiration dates and serial numbers, while also automatically recalling outdated series. This makes it easier to control the circulation of drugs, and above all, it facilitates limitation of warehouse stock quantities and makes it possible to save as much as 40-50% of storage space.
This project for the County Hospital in Radomsko also posits the supply and installation of a specially designed, automated vertical carousel system (referred to as a Rotomat storage carousel) to support the automatic storage and dispensing of medical devices and fluids while optimizing the pharmacy’s storage space. The region’s first special module will also be designed for a robot to dispense medications automatically to be delivered directly to the pharmaceutical station. In turn, expert software will streamline managing the production of cytostatic and sterile drugs used for parenteral nutrition.
“Automating hospital pharmacies offers more than just savings and efficiency. Above all, it augments patient safety. Streamlining the management of drugs exerts an impact not just on the day-to-day work done by medical teams. It also contributes to the quality of therapy, cost optimization and makes the entire system more resilient. The technological transition of pharmacies will allow pharmacists to focus their attention on supporting medical teams instead of on time-consuming manual logistics processes”, said Cezary Kozanecki, Synektik’s founder and CEO.
Project execution is aligned with the priorities of the “Healthy Future” strategy embraced by the Health Ministry for 2021-2027, which calls for automating, digitalizing and developing clinical pharmacy in hospitals. As ECAMET European research demonstrates, the dearth of modern solutions in pharmacies leads to a greater risk of error in drugs management, the inefficient usage of the working time of pharmacists and considerable warehousing losses. The vast majority of hospitals in Poland still lack roboticized systems for drugs management and automatic compounding stations for cytostatic drugs.
